Carol Adams

Ms. Adams, who began her movie career as a dancer at 20th Century Fox,
later got acting roles at Republic where she co-starred
with Gene Autry in "Ridin' On A Rainbow." Roy Rogers
was her leading man in "Bad Man of Deadwood." She was also featured in "Sis Hopkins" with Judy Canova.

Adrian Booth

One of the great leading ladies of the Western Cinema returned to Memphis after her appearance with us in 2000.  Adrian Booth will be joining us in our 100th birthday tribute to John Wayne with whom she appeared in "Dakota" and "Red River Range" (shown below).

Adrian has one of the most varied lists of film credits in Hollywood including appearing in serials (such as "Perils of Nyoka", "Captain America" and "Daughter of Don Q").  Other credits include starring opposite Boris Karloff in "The Man They Could Not Hang" and with Buster Keaton and The Three Stooges in various comedy shorts.

She has a long list of westerns to her credit working with a virtual "Who's Who" list of western stars including Monte Hale, Clayton Moore, Bob Steele, Roy Rogers, Don 'Red' Barry, Rod Cameron, Bill Elliot and many, many more.

Don Collier

Rugged Western actor who starred as ranch foreman
"Sam Butler" on The High Chaparral television series.
Also played the lead on TV's Outlaws and worked alongside
John Wayne in three films: The Undefeated (as seen below with Wayne, Ben Johnson and Rock Hudson), The War Wagon, and El Dorado.

Bill Hale

We were pleased to welcome a gentleman who has had a lot of experience in Hollywood's ol' West - Bill Hale !

Bill appeared in several Western films with the likes of Gene Autry, George Montgomery, Johnny Mack Brown, Charles Starrett and others.  Later he went on to have a successful western TV career appearing in more series than can be listed here including "Rawhide", "Wild Bill Hickok", "Range Rider", "Gunsmoke", "Rin Tin Tin", "Wagon Train" and many others.

Bill is also the brother of legendary film cowboy Monte Hale and helped us celebrate Monte's 88th birthday on the second day of the festival - June 8th!

One of the show's highlights was a live phone-hookup with Monte on that special day!

Ty Hardin

Ty starred as the rugged "Bronco Layne" on that popular TV series
from 1958-62 and made appearances on many of the other popular Warner Bros. western series.  He was also featured in such films as
PT 109, The Chapman Report, and Merrill's Marauders.

Whitey Hughes

This veteran stuntman and 2002 Golden Boot Award recipient has been in the business for more than 50 years.

His slim frame and short stature made him a natural for doubling many juvenile actors and women. These included Bobby Diamond on Fury, Jon Provost on Lassie, and Anne Lockhart on B.J. and the Bear. He also served as Stunt Coordinator for The Wild, Wild West (he is shown above in character posing with Ross Martin playing "Artemus Gordon" from that series.

Mr Hughes' movie career is equally impressive, having worked for director Sam Peckinpah several times. He was also associated with such films as The Wild One, Sitting Bull, Geronimo and Men in Black.

Mickey Kuhn

Mickey Kuhn has had an impressive career in films and has starred alongside some of Hollywood's finest stars.  Among his outstanding credits are the classic films "Juarez", "Gone With the Wind" (in the role of Beau Wilkes), "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn", "Dick Tracy, Detective" and "Broken Arrow".

Mickey joined us for our John Wayne tribute to share his memories of playing "Matthew Garth" in one of the Duke's best films, "Red River" (shown both above and below).

Caren Marsh

Caren Marsh has an unique claim in Hollywood history - she was Judy Garland's stand-in for one of the greatest films of all-time, "The Wizard of Oz"!

Being a dancer, Caren has also appeared in other films, including "Navajo Kid" with Bob Steele and "Hands Across the Border" with the King of the Cowboys, Roy Rogers!

Caren returned to the Memphis festival after being with us in 1999.

Lisa Montell
Although she was born in Europe, Ms. Montell often played Latin beauties or Native Americans.  She guested on a long list of television series, including several Westerns, such as The Gene Autry Show, Maverick, Cheyenne, Sugarfoot, Bat Masterson, and Tales of Wells Fargo.

A few of her feature films include Escape to Burma with Barbara Stanwyck, Ten Thousand Bedrooms with Dean Martin, and The Lone Ranger and the Lost City of Gold.  She was also featured in such Roger Corman classics as Naked Paradise, and The She Gods of Shark Reef along with the sci-fi thriller World Without End.

Gregg Palmer

After a very successful appearance with the festival in 2006, Gregg Palmer made a return appearance in 2007 where he will be helping us celebrate the 100th birthday of John Wayne.

Although Gregg is well-known as a rugged character actor who has appeared in several John Wayne and Audie Murphy films, he also appeared in film classics like "Magnificent Obsession" and "The Creature Walks Among Us", the last of the Universal "Creature from the Black Lagoon" series.

He also guested on several TV series including "Gunsmoke" (more than a dozen times), "Bonanza", "The Wild, Wild West", "Wyatt Earp" and many, many others.

Tom Reese



Tom Reese has become known as one of the great heavies in Hollywood.  Because he was "so good" at playing those roles, he was approached to play a wide variety of roles - from multiple appearances on "Gunsmoke" and "Bonanza" to playing a villain with an iron-plated skull in "Murderers' Row".  However, he was not restricted to those roles - Tom gave an emotionally powerful performance as the Apostle Thomas in "The Greatest Story Ever Told".

Don Kay
"Little Brown Jug"
Reynolds

Don has worked with some of the greatest western stars in film history including several films with Charles "Durango Kid" Starrett, Roy Rogers, Dale Evans and Eddie Dean.

One of his most recognizable roles is that of "Little Beaver", the Indian youth who rode along side Jim Bannon in the the famous Red Ryder series.

Don will be taking part in our centennial birthday tribute to Gene Autry and will be reminiscing about the films he made with Mr. Autry - "Beyond the Purple Hills" and "The Last Round-Up".

Don also sold copies of his book, "The Last Little Beaver of the Movies", at this year's festival !

This pictorial biography chronicles his long career in films ranging from his early films as "Little Beaver" in the "Red Ryder" series to his experiences working with Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, Charles Starrett and other Western stars even up and including his recent experience in Hollywood training animal performers including "Shadowfax" in the epic "Lord of the Rings" series.

 

 

Jean Rouverol

The festival's tribute to Gene Autry continued to become more complete as we had the opportunity to visit with another of his leading ladies.  Jean Rouverol will be sharing memories of her time co-starring with Gene Autry in "Western Jamboree".

Some of her other films include “Law West of Tombstone” with Harry Carey and Tim Holt, “Bar 20 Rides Again” with William Boyd, and “It’s A Gift” with W.C. Fields.

Jean Van

Jean Van made a rare appearance at the show to help us celebrate the life of Gene Autry.  Ms. Van appeared with Gene Autry in his popular western, "Saddle Pals".

Her first major film role was in "The Southerner" (under the name Jean Vanderwilt), the classic Jean Renoir film about a struggling farm family, in which she played the young daughter of Zachary Scott and Betty Field. Other movies she appeared in include "Little Mr. Jim" with "Butch" Jenkins and "Fiesta" which starred Esther Williams.

Johnny Western

Johnny Western has become a legend in the entertainment world of cowboy music and has appeared at music and film festivals worldwide.  He was everyone's first choice to play the role of "Gene Autry" in the show's radio re-creation of Gene's "Melody Ranch" program.

For the few of you who may be unfamiliar with his face, you'll certainly recognize his voice.  It was heard every week singing "The Ballad of Paladin" on TV's classic "Have Gun, Will Travel".
